Hybrid Profusion Double Mix
Plug Culture Use a well-drained media with low nutrients. Water the plug tray before sowing until drip point. Sow seeds and cover with light vermiculite. Maintain 21°C day and 18°C night temperature. Plants are ready for transplanting after three weeks.
Pot Preparation Peat-lite mixes with peat, perlite and vermiculite at soil pH 5.8–6.2.
Climate Sensitive to disease in cool temperatures (below 16°C). Warm temperatures above 24°C may stretch plants. Profusion series is highly disease tolerant but recommended to follow proper temperature guidelines.
Season Winter (Jan–April)
Fertilizers & Manures Weekly application of 200–250 ppm Nitrogen using calcium nitrate-based fertilizer. Apply 0.25 ppm boron with each fertilizer application to prevent boron deficiency (tip abortion, crinkled leaves, leaf edge burn).
Irrigation Water at the base to keep foliage dry and prevent stem rot and leaf spot. Drought tolerant once established but performs better with regular irrigation during dry spells.
Any Special Crop Practices Pinching: Pinch at 3 inches height for bushier growth.
Photoperiod Control: Short days (<11 hours) promote earlier flowering and compact growth.
Deadheading: Not required but improves plant appearance.
Diseases
Name of the Disease Symptoms & Management
Powdery Mildew White powdery coating on leaves and stems. Control: Maintain spacing (12–15 inches), water at base, use potassium bicarbonate, neem oil or sulfur fungicides.
Alternaria & Cercospora Leaf Spot Reddish-brown spots with gray centers. Remove infected leaves and apply copper-based or chlorothalonil fungicides.
Bacterial Leaf Spot Angular dark spots with yellow halos. Prevent by sanitation and avoiding overhead irrigation.
Aster Yellows Flowers turn green or deformed. No cure; remove and discard infected plants.
Pests
Name of the Pest Symptoms & Management
Aphids Yellowing leaves and stunted growth. Control: Water spray, insecticidal soap, ladybugs. Chemical control: Acepahte 75% SP (0.5 g/L), Dimethioate 1ml/L, Imidacloprid 30.5% SC @ 0.25 ml/L, Diafenthiuron 50% WP @ 1 gm/L.
Spider Mite Brown spots and fine webbing in hot dry weather. Control: Insecticidal soap and proper irrigation.
Thrips Scarring on petals and deformed buds. Control: Insecticidal sprays.
Japanese Beetles Skeletonize leaves. Control: Hand-pick into soapy water in morning.
