Our Process
SCM / Quality Control
At Sakata Seed India, we are deeply customer-centric, with a strong commitment to ensuring that Indian farmers have access to seeds of Superior global quality standards. Guided by the vision and mission of Sakata Seed Corporation, we uphold the same rigorous global benchmarks in testing, treatment, and processing, while tailoring our efforts to meet the unique needs of Indian agriculture. Our goal is to empower farmers with reliable, high-performing seeds that deliver better yield, sustainability, and peace of mind, thereby contributing to a healthier and more prosperous farming community.
Basic Policy of Quality Control
Sakata Seed India implements strict and objective quality control procedures in order to deliver high-quality seeds to our customers. The basic policy of our quality control is “reliable quality testing using reliable procedures” and “quality evaluation from a customer perspective.” Each staff member is engaged in work with a strong sense of responsibility and high aspirations. To realise quick and accurate testing, we have established advanced quality control and testing facilities in India with the aim of thorough quality control and continuous improvement of testing technology.
Sorting Quality Seeds from the Harvest
- Selection based on the weight and shape of seeds
- Physical purity test being conducted visually
Delivered seeds are stored in state-of-the-art warehouses, where temperature and humidity are carefully maintained for each crop to preserve seed quality. Since seeds collected directly from the field are often mixed with foreign substances such as stones, sand, soil, plant fragments, or weed seeds, we conduct a physical purity test to identify and separate impurities. Based on the results, only seeds that meet our strict quality parameters are selected and commercialised.
Following the purity test, a seed count analysis is performed to determine the number of seeds per gram. A fixed number of seeds is weighed according to their size, and the calculated seed count is used to ensure accurate and transparent labelling of seed bags in terms of seeds, milliliters, or grams. This process guarantees that farmers receive precise quantities and superior-quality seeds, fully aligned with Sakata’s global standards of reliability and trust.
In our quality control process, we follow the international standards defined by ISTA (International Seed Testing Association). To maintain this, we continuously adhere to strictly defined protocols and quality parameters, ensuring that every seed delivered to farmers upholds the trust and reliability of the Sakata brand.
Germination Test
At Sakata Seed India, germination tests are conducted to guarantee the germination rate and ensure consistent seed performance. These tests include evaluations on paper and in soil, and seeds are sown under conditions similar to those experienced by farmers. Through these methods, we can accurately assess both the germinability of seed lots and the uniformity of germination.
To further strengthen our customer-centric approach, Sakata Seed India has introduced the concept of a healthy seedling rate in addition to the standard germination rate. This advanced evaluation provides farmers with greater assurance of seed quality, helping them achieve better establishment, stronger crop growth, and higher yields — all with peace of mind.
In addition to the standard quality checks, Sakata Seed India employs advanced DNA-based tests in our laboratories, along with cultivation tests in our research facilities, to confirm the genetic purity of every seed lot.
By combining internationally recognised ISTA methods with our own advanced testing technologies, we carry out comprehensive evaluations that go beyond basic compliance. Every result is assessed against the Sakata Seed India Comprehensive Quality Standards, ensuring that only the most reliable and authentic seeds reach farmers that they can trust for performance, purity, and consistency.
To ensure the superior quality of seeds, each seed undergoes specialised treatments that promote uniform germination, giving every seed the best chance to grow strong and healthy. Every seed bag contains finished products that have passed rigorous testing and verification, from the raw material stage through every step of processing.
As part of our commitment to farmers’ success, seed disinfection is performed during processing to protect against potential pathogens. This guarantees that farmers receive safe, high-quality seeds, ready to deliver optimal crop performance, higher yields, and the joy of a prosperous harvest.
At Sakata Seed India, we cultivate innovation, stand with Indian farmers, and harvest happiness together.

Our focus on transparency, traceability, and coordination across the supply chain ensures that farmers receive seeds they can trust, empowering them to achieve better yields, sustainable farming, and lasting success.
Logistics, Seed Packaging, and Digital Connectivity
At Sakata Seed India, our logistics and seed packaging processes are designed to ensure that seeds reach farmers safely, efficiently, and in perfect condition. Advanced packaging solutions protect seeds during transport and provide accurate labelling for ease of use. Our robust logistics network ensures timely delivery across India, while traceability and quality checks guarantee reliability.
To further support farmers, we are now digitally connected through QR codes on each seed packet. This gives farmers and customers access to detailed information about each seed lot and hybrid, along with a package of best practices for cultivation. Beyond delivering superior quality seeds, we empower farmers with knowledge transfer, improved agronomy skills, and practical guidance, helping them achieve higher yields, healthier crops, and a joyful harvest.
